Luiz Felipe Scolari took responsibility for the “catastrophic result” as hosts Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany.
“It's the worst day of my life. Who is responsible for this result? I am, it’s me,” said the Coach in his Press conference after the World Cup semi-final humiliation.
“The blame for this catastrophic result can be shared between us all, but the person who decided the line-up, the tactics, it was me. It was my choice.
“We tried to do what we could, we did our best – but we came up against a great German team. We couldn’t react to going behind. There were six or seven minutes that changed the game.
“I can say that after the first goal, Germany took us by surprise, played with quality and took advantage of the situation.
“Not even the Germans can tell you how this happened – but it’s because their skills and you have to respect that.
“My message for the Brazilian people is this. Please forgive us for this performance. We thank the fans, as even if losing by five, six or seven goals, they always supported us.
“I’m sorry that we weren’t able to get to the Final – but we’re going to try to win the third place match. We still have something to play for."
