Luiz Felipe Scolari insists Brazil must “honour the shirt” in tonight’s third place play-off against Holland.
The hosts saw their World Cup hopes crushed in record-breaking fashion with a 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany.
“I know my career will be marked by this defeat, but we have an obligation to move on and think about the next goal, which in this case is the match for third place in Brasilia,” said the Coach.
“I know it’s a much smaller dream that we all wanted, but we have to honour the shirt of the national team.”
The play-off kicks off at 21.00 UK time (20.00 GMT) and Thiago Silva returns from suspension, but Neymar is out with a fractured vertebra.
The 65-year-old refused to resign, instead pointing out that it was only his third defeat in 28 games on the Seleçao bench.
Scolari said he will only decide on his future after this game and a meeting with the Federation.
“We made the semi-finals, the top four teams in the world. And there were a lot of good teams that were knocked out before us.”
