Torino and Netherlands international defender Perr Schuurs was absolutely distraught as he was stretchered off in tears against Inter with a serious knee injury.

The centre-back was tackled by Nicolò Barella, but it was the way he fell that seemed most worrying, as the left knee buckled under him.

The player, who turns 24 next month, was immediately in agony and the faces of his teammates as they gathered around him suggest they could tell it was serious.

Initial suggestions point to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, although the tendon might also be involved.

Whatever the verdict, it is likely to keep him out for the rest of the season.

It is a huge problem for Torino, who were already short on defenders with Koffi Djidji and Alessandro Buongiorno out of action.

Schuurs is also one of the most valuable players in the Toro squad and had been linked with Inter and Liverpool over the summer.
