Juve were waiting for the all-clear from Schalke and were initially told to wait until Sunday morning for a definitive response.

However, on Saturday night Sky Sport Italia claimed that Schalke had taken Draxler off the market.

SportItalia maintain this is because Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg made an approach for the same money offered by Juve.

They’ve got cash now after selling Kevin de Bruyne to Manchester City and Ivan Perisic to Inter.

It would be a heavy blow for the Bianconeri, but they already have an alternative lined up.

They will instead go for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Witsel, who has made it clear he wants a move to Serie A.

He has also been linked with Milan, who were scared off by the €25m price-tag.

Witsel is a Belgium international who can take the trequartista role behind the strikers.
