President Paolo Scaroni says CEO Ivan Gazidis ‘makes the decisions’ regarding the proposed arrival of Ralf Rangnick and points out that Milan ‘cut costs’ to avoid further Financial Fair Play trouble.
The patron was critical towards a ‘debatable’ Coppa Italia schedule ahead of the resumption but was happy to ‘compromise’ and prepare for a return to action ‘as soon as possible’.

The patron was critical towards a ‘debatable’ Coppa Italia schedule ahead of the resumption but was happy to ‘compromise’ and prepare for a return to action ‘as soon as possible’.
“I was hoping that the Coppa Italia would be played in August for a better restart, two games full of adrenaline immediately after the break are very stressful for the players,” Scaroni told Radio Anch’io Sport.
“In the end, a compromise was made, on June 12. I remain optimistic. In the League we vote unanimously for the restart, we are ready to play as soon as possible.”
The patron underlined that Milan back Stefano Pioli for the run-in, despite reports regarding a scheduled meeting with Red Bull director Rangnick.
“For now, we have confidence in Pioli. I don’t know if the German manager will arrive.
“[CEO Ivan] Gazidis makes the decisions, I don’t even know when he talks to other candidates. We have faith in Pioli and [Technical director Paolo] Maldini.”
Scaroni hopes to avoid having to decide on different hypothesis to conclude the current campaign in case of another stop.
“I remain focused on Plan A, so I hope there’s no need for Plan B or Plan C. This debate doesn’t interest me much.
“I’m focused on restarting and finishing the championship on the pitch. I’m convinced that we will have the virus behind us relatively quickly.”
Milan agreed to withdraw from the Europa League after reaching an agreement with UEFA over Financial Fair Play last summer and the President reveals the club has worked hard to ‘cut costs’ at Milanello.
“We have made great efforts to cut costs. Gazidis focused on this, the future consists of young players with reasonable prices.
“We don’t want any more penalties from UEFA. The Financial Fair Play prevents madness, from there, we could se a less insane world. Milan want to keep costs down and increase revenues.
“Milan come from a long period of crisis; it seems utopian to think that a rebirth can happen quickly.”
Inter and Milan are currently working on building a new stadium and the President hopes he can soon bring good news.
“The priority goes to the new stadium in Milan and I hope to have positive news soon. The stadium is not a historical monument. We will keep the remains of the [Giuseppe] Meazza, it won’t disappear, but we will build a stadium suitable for our times.
“The fact that there are two shareholders who want to make the most beautiful stadium in the world seems like a miracle.”
Injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at Milan seems uncertain but the President hopes he will recover in time to play during the run-in.
“I hope we can see Ibra again. I hope he can start playing again, I have read comforting news from Sweden.”
