Scaroni: ‘Magical atmosphere, Milan optimistic’

Milan President Paolo Scaroni is enjoying the ‘magical’ atmosphere of the Champions League Derby with Inter and explains why he has reason to feel ‘optimistic’ about his team’s chances.

It kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

“The atmosphere of this derby is magical,” Scaroni told Sky Sport Italia.

“I love that the fans have an overall friendly rapport, which is not that common in a derby. I just hope things go better than last time!”

The Rossoneri were beaten 2-0 in the first leg and therefore have a mountain to climb, even if the away goals rule no longer applies.

The big news is that Rafael Leao is back in the starting XI, having shaken off a muscular injury that forced him to sit out last week’s showdown at San Siro.

“I have to be optimistic, otherwise I get anxious. Plus let us not forget that Milan won 4-0 away to Napoli, who would’ve ever predicted that? And we have Leao now, so there’s reason to feel optimistic.”

It is another full house at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with over 75,000 people packed in to watch the Derby della Madonnina.

These teams have met four times already this season, with Milan winning the first 3-2, then losing three on the bounce between Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana and Champions League.
