Gianluca Scamacca has found a new lease of life with Atalanta this season, but last summer a move to Inter seemed imminent and alluding messages were even sent.
The 25-year-old only spent one year in the Premier League before looking for a Serie A return last summer, unable to settle with the Hammers, where he scored eight goals across 27 matches. After much rumour and speculation, Atalanta managed to secure his signature in early August.
Scamacca was the hero for Atalanta in their 3-0 away win over Liverpool in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, scoring twice to drive his team to a memorable victory at Anfield. His work could be enough to take la Dea to the semi-finals.
Scamacca messages
As reported by Marco Demicheli of Calciomercato.com, Inter looked set to win the race for Scamacca last summer, seemingly having the technical and economical edge over Atalanta, and the player himself even seemed sure.
The 25-year-old striker exchanged messages with a number of Nerazzurri players ahead of his expected move, receiving a warm welcome, but suddenly everything changed when Atalanta secured a deal.
The move to Atalanta is starting to look the right one for Scamacca, who is now in with a serious chance of joining Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad for the upcoming European Championship.
