Italy international Gianluca Scamacca has completed his transfer from Sassuolo to West Ham United and will wear the Number 7 jersey, but a statement isn’t expected yet.

The deal was worth €36m plus €6m in performance-related bonuses and a 10 per cent cut of any future transfer fee, all figures confirmed over the last few days by Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali.

The 23-year-old flew in last night via private jet from Rome and had his medical today in London before signing the five-year contract, with option for a sixth.

Scamacca is a centre-forward with seven senior caps for Italy.

He started out in the Lazio and Roma youth academies before moving to PSV Eindhoven at the age of 16 in January 2015.

The striker returned to Italy for Sassuolo in January 2017, going on loan to Cremonese, PEC Zwolle, Ascoli and Genoa before a breakout season with the Neroverdi that saw him score 16 Serie A goals.

Paris Saint-Germain had been in advanced negotiations for Scamacca, but were out-bid by West Ham.
