The 29-year-old joined the Portuguese club in 2009 on a three-year deal which included an option to extend that for a further campaign.

However, it is looking increasingly likely that the Argentine will move on after falling behind Oscar Cardozo and Rodrigo in the first team plans at the Estadio da Luz.

Having signed Miroslav Klose on a Bosman from Bayern Munich in the summer and been rewarded with goals galore, Lazio are keen to repeat the trick with the former River Plate youngster.

Saviola has been in Europe since joining Barcelona in 2001. He’s also played for Monaco, Sevilla and Real Madrid in his career.
