“It is a dream come true for me,” he told reporters. “I'm really happy and really excited.

“It is totally unexpected for me. I have dreamed of this moment since I was a child.

“I am delighted for myself and for my teammates – especially after the tough season we've had.”

The 31-man squad will meet at Coverciano on Monday, before they play San Marino in a friendly on May 31. Cesare Prandelli's team then face Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier, before the reduced 23-man squad travels to Brazil for the Confederation Cup.
