Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali warns Davide Frattesi and Roma that they are ‘waiting for calls from other clubs too’ and are unlikely to sell in January regardless.

The midfielder grew up in the Roma youth academy and has made absolutely no secret of his desire to return, and irritation that the move did not materialise over the summer.

There is still hope for a January switch to the Stadio Olimpico, although other clubs including Napoli and Brighton and Hove Albion are also said to be interested.

“Frattesi has been with us for a few years, he is doing well and has great potential,” Sassuolo director Carnevali told Radio Sportiva.

The Italy international declared he was waiting for a call from Roma.

“Well we are waiting for calls not just from Roma, but other clubs too. We would like to give him the opportunity to join a big club, so we have never refused anyone that chance, as long as our requests are met.

“He knows that he still needs to grow and improve a bit, do a little more, and I am convinced he’ll flourish in the second half of this season.

“We’ll see over the summer what possibilities there are. We have received a few offers, even if not directly from Roma but abroad. We generally don’t like to sell our young talents in the January window.”

The 23-year-old midfielder has four senior caps for Italy, having made his international debut in June this year.

He also only recently extended his contract with Sassuolo to June 2026 and first joined the club from the Roma youth academy in 2017 for €5m.

Roma have as part of that deal an agreement to take 30 per cent of any future sell-on fee.
