Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali warns Juventus and Inter that they face strong competition for Gianluca Scamacca. ‘Fortunately, there are some foreign clubs tracking him too.’

The Neroverdi play Cagliari in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 today, you can follow that fixture on the Match Centre.

Scamacca just turned 23 and has nine goals in 21 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo so far this season.

While Carnevali was asked about Inter and Juve interest, the general manager told Sport Mediaset they hoped to spark a bidding war.

“Fortunately, the player is watched by many clubs, although there have been no formal offers so far. The good thing is that there are some foreign clubs tracking him too, because Italian football is otherwise very restricted in its options.”

With Inter and Juve both watching the purse-strings, Sassuolo’s best chance of getting a big transfer fee would be to sell Scamacca abroad.

He is certainly not averse to leaving Italy, having already spent time at PSV Eindhoven and PEC Zwolle.

Scamacca started out at both the Lazio and Roma youth academies before joining PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

He was sold to Sassuolo for €0.5m in January 2017, then sent on various loan experiences in Italy and the Netherlands.

As part of that deal, PSV are owed 10 per cent of any future transfer fee.

  1. I would LOVE Scamacca at Milan. He’d fit Pioli’s/M&M’s model so well; young and technically so good. Not just a tall target man, and definitely young enough to work on his sometimes inconsistent form.

  2. Inter don’t have the money. They have been linked to Scamacca, Raspadori, Fratesi and now Dybala. Where are they going to get the money?? The CCP won’t allow any big investments.
