Sassuolo have a new creative midfielder, as Kristian Thorstvedt reportedly signed after a medical and the €10m release clause was paid to KRC Genk.

The 23-year-old Norway international can play as a trequartista behind the strikers or in a deeper midfield role, and already has 17 senior caps for Norway with four goals and six assists for his country.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Thorstvedt had his medical today and already put pen to paper on the contract with Sassuolo.

There were no negotiations with Genk, because the Neroverdi simply paid the €10m release clause to activate his transfer to the Mapei Stadium.

It’s a tidy profit, considering he was purchased from Viking FK in January 2020 for just €1.5m.

He made 45 competitive appearances for KRC Genk in Belgium last season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists for his teammates.

Thorstvedt has been compared to Lazio and Serbia midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
