Sassuolo have struck a deal to sign Penarol centre-forward Agustin Alvarez Martinez and he will have his medical over the weekend.

Penarol President Ignacio Ruglio told Ovacion that the deal was done.

“The offer is worth $12m for 80 per cent of his contract, plus $2m in bonuses based on performance-related targets achieved by the player.

“We accepted the offer and are waiting for confirmation.”

The striker just turned 21 last month and already has four senior caps for Uruguay, scoring one goal.

He is a product of the Penarol youth academy, finding the net once with one assist in 21 competitive appearances this season.

According to Sport 890, Alvarez will sign a five-year contract with Sassuolo and fly out to Italy over the weekend for his medical tests.

The hitman had also been linked with Fiorentina earlier in the summer.

That does not necessarily mean that Gianluca Scamacca will be sold, as Gregoire Defrel is also believed to be on the way out of the Mapei Stadium this summer, but Italy international Scamacca does have numerous offers on the table.
