Sassuolo are open to the idea of the remaining Serie A games being played in the centre and south of the country. “Behind closed doors, all stadiums are the same.”
The proposal is gaining traction, as the COVID-19 cases are practically eradicated around the country, except for seven regions in the north.
“I try not to read the comments from Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora, as he tends to change his mind soon after anyway,” Sassuolo director general Giovanni Carnevali told Radio 24.

“I like the idea of neutral venues, because once you are behind closed doors, all stadiums are the same, really. We are so eager to get going again that our athletes are ready to accept a very long training retreat so they can limit travelling and contact. We know health comes first, but football is like any other business and we feel equipped to deal with the situation.”
There has already been some change, as most clubs are back at their training grounds this week.
“The only important thing is that we’ve been able to resume training. All the clubs, amid many difficulties, are determined to complete the season, so it’s a huge opportunity to have these lads back with a smile on their faces.
“We only have six players at a time training, one fitness coach and one medic, all using social distancing and the maximum precautions. The players arrive every 15 minutes, they bring their own water and shower at home.”
