Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali confirmed Alessandro Matri “is the right man for us,” but also target Mauricio Pinilla and Khouma Babacar.
The Neroverdi are taking part in tonight’s Trofeo TIM, a traditional pre-season tournament made up of three 45-minute matches, where they’ll face Milan and Celta Vigo.
“Matri is one of those players who have been talked about for some time,” Carnevali told Mediaset Premium.

“He is the right man for Sassuolo, as he can bring that experience that we need today. He is of interest, but like him there are others we are evaluating.”
Veteran hitman Matri turns 32 next week and is still owned by Milan after a loan spell at Lazio.
Carnevali was asked if that included Atalanta striker Pinilla and Fiorentina’s Babacar.
“Yes, that’s accurate, but there are many names linked with Sassuolo. We must maintain our balance. I don’t think Fiorentina want to sell Babacar if not at an important price and we must maintain our philosophy.
“We don’t want to consider last season’s sixth-place finish an isolated incident, because we have important projects. It will be very difficult to repeat that, but the objective is to always do well.”
