Sassuolo have been in contact with Gennaro Gattuso and Fabio Grosso as they look for the right replacement for Alessio Dionisi.

The Neroverdi decided to make a change following their painful 3-2 loss to Empoli at home on Sunday, a result that leaves the club 17th in the league table, tied on points with relegation candidates Hellas Verona and Cagliari.

Whilst Dionisi did do well during his time at Sassuolo, the wheels began to fall off the project this term and he was unable to recover, leaving the team at risk of relegation as the final few months of the season approach.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Sassuolo have been in contact with Gattuso, Grosso and Davide Ballardini in recent hours, exploring their options following the dismissal of Dionisi.

All three coaches want a long-term project, with contracts either to June 2025 or 2026, and for now the Neroverdi are not looking to rush into a decision, entrusting the team to Primavera coach Emiliano Bigica for the time being.
