Sassuolo have reportedly failed with a bid to sign Espanyol forward Leo Baptistao.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Baptistao was Sassuolo’s ‘first choice’ to replace Kevin-Prince Boateng, as opposed to the likes of Mario Balotelli and Gianluca Caprari.

However, the broadcaster warns ‘there were no grounds for negotiations to move forward’.

Sport also writes that while the 26-year-old has scored just one goal this season, he remains in Espanyol’s first-team plans.
