With 15 goals in their 26 games so far, the Neroverdi are the most goal-shy side in Europe’s top five leagues, scoring three fewer than Benevento, who have only three wins all season.
Swansea City have only 21 in 28 Premier League games, Ligue 1’s Caen have 20 in 27 and Hamburg have 18 in 24 in the Bundesliga.
The only team that comes close is La Liga’s bottom side, Malaga, but even they have a better record with 16 goals in 25 games.
That stands in contrast to Serie A as a whole, where there are 2.71 goals per match, higher than the Premier League, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
One of the big reasons for that is the form of Napoli, whose 5-0 win over Cagliari last night underlined their attacking potency.
The Partenopei are now scoring at the rate of a goal every 39 minutes across the season, while conceding only every 155 minutes.
Maurizio Sarri’s side are nonetheless being outscored by Juventus, who have 62 goals with one game fewer, and Serie A top-scorers Lazio.
With their 64 goals so far, the Biancocelesti are scoring an average of 2.46 goals per game but they’ve been far less ruthless at the other end of the pitch.
Lazio concede an average of 1.27 goals per game, meaning that 69 per cent of their matches end with both teams scoring.
That trend was bucked this weekend as the Aquile took a 3-0 away win – though this should perhaps come as less of a surprise given they were at Sassuolo.
