Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Sassuolo have decided to enter the fray with Empoli and Spezia for Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu.

The 21-year-old Welsh centre back spent last season on loan with Venezia, where he impressed across his 30 appearances across all competitions. Despite their eventual relegation, Ampadu did well during his year in Venice and Italian clubs have not forgotten the Welshman as the transfer market starts to draw to a close.

As reported by Di Marzio, Ampadu returned to Chelsea last month but won’t be integrated into Thomas Tuchel’s squad, pushing him to move away from West London. Several teams are already interested in the 21-year-old, like Empoli and Spezia, and now Sassuolo have joined the race.

The Italian teams are also facing some competition from the Premier League, with a report last week suggesting that Wolves were also interested in making a move for the Welsh defender.

With less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window now, updates are expected at some point in the coming days.
