Sassuolo have confirmed Domenico Berardi suffered a thigh strain, while Gregoire Defrel needs surgery for a fractured metatarsal.

The pair both sustained their injuries during the 0-0 draw with Milan on August 30.

Berardi pulled up during an attack and tests confirmed a lesion to the femoral bicep in his left leg.

As the extent of the damage is not known, it remains to be seen how long he will be out for, but it’s expected to be at least a couple of weeks.

A far longer lay-off awaits for striker Defrel, who has a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

The player will go under the knife to reduce the fracture on Wednesday in Cesena, the surgery performed by Professor Lijoi.
