Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali explains Francesco Caputo’s move to Sampdoria, insisting the success was keeping Domenico Berardi, Gianluca Scamacca and Jeremie Boga.
The Neroverdi have been very active on the transfer market, sending top scorer Caputo to Samp on loan with option to buy for a total €3.5m.
“I am satisfied with our transfer session, although it was dominated by sacrifices,” Carnevali told Tuttomercatoweb.
“We kept Berardi, Boga and above all Scamacca. We sold Medhi Bourabia, Caputo and Lukas Haraslin. Manuel Locatelli and Marlon were the most important sales.
“People didn’t understand the technical aspects of the deal with Juventus for Locatelli, but we are satisfied with the sale.”
Berardi had demanded a transfer in the final weeks, with Fiorentina and Atalanta among those interested, but nobody got close to the €25m asking price.
“Berardi is probably our most important player and we didn’t receive offers that were suited to the value of the player. If there aren’t offers, then we must both be happy to continue together.”
Boga had been expected to move on, as his contract only runs to June 2022 and he has so far refused to discuss an extension.
Crystal Palace were interested earlier today, after weeks of Atalanta discussions, but Sassuolo yanked the former Chelsea winger off the transfer market.
Sampdoria turned to Caputo on deadline day, only after Napoli had pulled the plug on Andrea Petagna’s loan.
“The Caputo deal came at the end and was possible because of the good rapport we have with the player. I think all parties are happy with the way things have gone.”
Caputo was also released because Scamacca returned from his loan at Genoa and wants more regular playing time.
Berardi super player. Wish we had him in Lazio. Lotare out.
He means need more and more money to discuss
Berardi could have been a good replacement for Correa, but Lazio went for the past-it Pedro instead and that waster F Anderson. Hopefully Zaccagni does something.
