Sassuolo named their training ground after recently deceased patrons Giorgio Squinzi and Adriana Spazzoli, as Giovanni Carnevali aims for ‘Champions League qualification.’
The Neroverdi were in Serie C2 when Squinzi and his wife Adriana took control of the club and helped them all the way to not only become regulars in Serie A, but also play in the Europa League.
They were married in 1970 and died within weeks of each other in October and November 2019.

Today, there was an unveiling ceremony, as the road towards the Sassuolo training ground was named after Giorgio Squinzi and an astroturf pitch within the ground was dedicated to Adriana Spazzoli.
“It is a wonderful day for us, as the Italy squad is training in our centre and will play at the Mapei Stadium this evening,” said director Carnevali on Sky Sport Italia.
“We feel that they are watching down on us and cheering us on. We’ll aim to qualify for the Champions League, because we owe that to them, it was Squinzi’s greatest wish to see Sassuolo in Europe’s premier competition.”
