Maurizio Sarri’s father says his son “would have gladly stayed to coach Napoli”, before falling out with President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The tactician broke the Partenopei’s points record twice in his three seasons, with his side amassing 91 points last season.

They still finished second behind Juventus though, and Sarri was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

“At school he cheered for Napoli because he was born there,” Amerigo Sarri, a 90-year-old former cyclist, told FirenzeViola.

“Naples remains in his heart and he would have gladly stayed to coach Napoli, but unfortunately something happened with the President… I don’t know.

“In any case, he’s very happy in England [with Chelsea].

“I went to see him a fortnight ago and for the first time I saw one of his matches. He’s very happy in England, and he’s always been able to speak English.

“He went to London for four months when he worked at the bank, but also the Netherlands, Luxembourg…”

Sarri grew up in Tuscany when his family moved back there, could he be Fiorentina Coach one day?

“I don’t know if there was a chance in the past, we don’t talk much about football. I spent fifteen day with him, he went out in the morning and returned in the evening, slipping into his study except for dinner.”
