Reports in France state that Maurizio Sarri is still in contention for the Chelsea job, along with Luis Enrique and Laurent Blanc.

The Coach is still under contract with Napoli, and the Blues refused to pay his €8m release clause before it expired on May 31.

Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis can now demand any price he wants to release Sarri, and that has seen rumours that the English side are looking elsewhere.

Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis can now demand any price he wants to release Sarri, and that has seen rumours that the English side are looking elsewhere.

However, while L’Équipe reports that Blanc is indeed being considered, he is one of three candidates along with Sarri and Luis Enrique.

The Frenchman has reportedly ruled out a move to the Bundesliga since he doesn’t speak German, so is waiting for a job with a big club in England, Italy or Spain.

It’s believed the lack of previous offers is due to Blanc’s reputation as being hands off, with L’Équipe quoting agents who spoke to Inter and Roma about why they didn’t hire the former defender.

The sports newspaper points out “the world of football is small”, so Chelsea’s reservations may well be down to the same rumours.

That leaves the English side with a choice between Blanc, paying Sarri’s release clause, or meeting Enrique’s much higher wage demands.
