Maurizio Sarri risks being fined by Serie A after showing a middle finger to the Hellas Verona bench in Lazio’s 2-0 win yesterday.

The 63-year-old Italian coach is settling into his role in Rome after a strong debut season, and initial indications suggest that Lazio have started to improve upon the issues that plagued them last season, although clearly further work is needed.

Sarri seems to have reignited his passion for football after tough spells with Chelsea and Juventus, and this was clearly visible during yesterday’s match.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sarri is likely to be fined for showing the gesture towards the Hellas Verona bench but is not expected to be disqualified for Lazio’s next match.

The punishment will be affected by the relaxed tone of the post-match, when both Sarri and Verona director Francesco Marroccu both downplayed the incident.

The two clubs have somewhat of a positive relationship, carrying out multiple deals in the last 12 months like the Mattia Zaccagni and Matteo Cancellieri transfers.
