Eight Serie A clubs have changed coaches this season, including Roma, Napoli and Lazio: here are all the managerial changes in Italy’s top flight in 2023-24.

Nearly half of Serie A clubs have changed their coaches this season, and Maurizio Sarri was the latest on the list as Lazio confirmed his resignation on Wednesday morning.

Empoli were the first club to change in September, replacing Paolo Zanetti with Aurelio Andreazzoli. The 70-year-old was also sacked in January, making room for Davide Nicola.

The Tuscans were followed by Salernitana, who also changed coaches twice this season. Filippo Inzaghi replaced Paulo Sousa in October, and Fabio Liverani arrived at the Stadio Arechi in February. Changes in the dugout have not brought encouraging results, as the Granata remain at rock bottom of the Serie A table and have little chance of survival.

Gabriele Cioffi returned to Udinese later in October, replacing Andrea Sottil, while Walter Mazzarri took Rudi Garcia’s job at Napoli in November, but WM only remained in charge for three months at the Stadio Maradona as Francesco Calzona was appointed in February.

Roma called club legend Daniele De Rossi in January to replace José Mourinho and the ex-midfielder has collected convincing results in Serie A and Europa League. The Giallorossi sat 9th in the table when Mou left and they are currently 5th, just three points below Bologna.

Sassuolo Primavera coach Emiliano Bigica replaced Alessio Dionisi at the Mapei Stadium but only remained in charge for a game before Davide Ballardini’s appointment until the end of the season. The Neroverdi remain in the relegation zone after one win and one loss with Ballardini in the dugout.

The latest Serie A round cost the job to two coaches: Roberto D’Aversa was replaced by Luca Gotti at Lecce after trying to headbutt Hellas Verona striker Thomas Henry after a 1-0 loss at the Via Del Mare this past weekend, while Sarri resigned as Lazio coach on Tuesday was officially replaced by his assistant Giovanni Martusciello.
