According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Maurizio Sarri’s future at Lazio is in doubt as both the coach and the club have are uncertain about continuing the journey together.
The Biancocelesti have had highs and lows during Sarri’s first season at the club. Although they will likely qualify for Europa League, they’ve never been solid contenders for a top-four finish.
Sunday’s 3-0 loss in the Rome derby has caused concern as club directors and president Claudio Lotito noticed many similarities with other heavy defeats this season. Lazio are considering the future of the coach in light of the many unexpected collapses in key games this term.
On the other hand, Sarri also has doubts about his stay at the club. The coach was unhappy with the January transfer campaign and expects reinforcements in the summer.
The former Juventus, Napoli and Chelsea coach signed a two-year deal in 2021 and there were reports that he would extend his contract until 2025. However, the two parties are not expected to meet anytime soon to discuss a new deal as they are now considering their options for the future.
Sarri has an option to end his contract with Lazio by May, but only to join a foreign club, a possibility that is not on the cards at the moment.
Sarri-Lotito, il grande gelo. Rinnovo con la Lazio, sì o no? È l’ora dei dubbi https://t.co/WSNpVKHUOe

A real non-story. I mean, what does Lotito expect from his team? They are what they are and have been for over a decade. A decent team that plays to it talent level in the 4th place to 8th place range. And that struggles in Europe. That’s it. So long as Lotito penny pinches as he has every right to do I don’t see them ever playing (or competing) in Europe and for the Serie A title.
