According to Il Messaggero, Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has called Gianluigi Buffon to ask his opinion on Marco Carnesecchi, one of the Biancocelesti’s targets for the summer.

Lazio are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper for 2022-23 given that Thomas Strakosha will likely leave at the end of his contract in June.

Italy U21 international Carnesecchi is among their targets. The 21-year-old is on loan at Cremonese from Atalanta, but La Dea’s starting spot in goal has already been taken by Juan Musso, who moved to Bergamo in the summer.

According to the report, Sarri called Gigi Buffon, who he coached at Juventus, to know his view on the promising goalkeeper who will return to Bergamo in the summer.

Carnesecchi is not Lazio’s only target as Chelsea’s Kepa and Pierluigi Gollini are also on Sarri’s radars. Gollini is also expected to return to Atalanta in the summer after his loan spell at Tottenham.

Pepe Reina is the other goalkeeper contracted with Lazio and his one-year deal will automatically be renewed for one more season if the Biancocelesti qualify for Europe. However, the former Napoli goalkeeper has fallen down Sarri’s pecking order this season, so the Tuscan tactician is looking for a new goalkeeper for 2022-23.
