This evening, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis released a statement via Twitter that thanked Sarri for his contribution to the club, but was to all intents and purposes a dismissal.
Sarri had taken a few days to consider his options for the future, but the President took matters into his own hands instead.

Now the Coach appears to have only three alternatives open to him: Chelsea, Zenit or take a year off.
According to The Telegraph, Sarri has hired an English intermediary to help him become first choice at Chelsea, where he faces competition from ex-Roma and Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.
Chelsea have not yet decided what action they will take with current manager Antonio Conte, who won the Premier League in his first season and the FA Cup in his second.
Sacking Conte could prove a very costly process, so it’s by no means certain that will happen this summer.
Zenit St Petersburg are the other option for Sarri and there are reports his representative requested a visa for Russia over the last few days.
The 59-year-old took over in June 2015 and had an average of 2.16 points per game, with 98 competitive victories, 25 draws and 25 defeats.
His team were immensely entertaining to watch, scoring 318 goals and conceding 143.
