Maurizio Sarri and Ivan Provedel hope Lazio can show the right attitude with Cagliari, as this season they have been ‘more reliable in Europe’ than in domestic competition.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 17.00 GMT.

While the Biancocelesti were celebrating midweek after a 2-0 win over Celtic took them into the Champions League Round of 16, they have struggled in Serie A, managing only one point from the last three rounds.

It is certainly not the first time that Sarri has complained at a lack of consistency in their mentality and approach to the different tournaments, so it remains to be seen how they will react against Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari.

“Our history this season teaches us we are more reliable in Europe than in Italy, so we need to be very focused, put Serie A as our objective and maintain that throughout the match,” Sarri told DAZN.

Ciro Immobile returns to the starting XI after the stunning substitute appearance against Celtic, while Gustav Isaksen makes his second consecutive start.

“Isaksen is improving, he has fresh legs and is not ready to make the difference yet, but he can give us a hand. Immobile is in better shape now, he only played half an hour midweek, so he can start today.”

Meanwhile, Lazio have conceded an extra seven goals so far this season compared to last year, so Provedel was asked what is causing that change.

“Details make the difference and it takes very little to shift the balance. Evidently we are not doing as well as we should be, but we are working on it and hope to start proving ourselves from this evening,” replied the goalkeeper.
