Maurizio Sarri admits he’ll stick with the 4-3-3 after Napoli’s two 5-0 victories and shrugged off Diego Maradona’s criticism.

The Coach had initially adopted a 4-3-1-2 system, but since going with a pure trident the Partenopei have demolished both Club Brugge and Lazio by 5-0 scorelines in the space of four days.

“We never changed our idea of football, we just changed a few starting positions,” Sarri told Mediaset Premium.

“Defensively the 4-3-3 gives us something more. We will practice both systems in training, but clearly if this one continues to provide these performances, we won’t change it again.

“We took the right approach tonight, immediately pinned back our opponents and build this success on that initial phase of the game. When going 2-0 up, it was all downhill, especially as Lazio were coming back from a match in Ukraine on Thursday.”

Although it’s an astonishing run of back-to-back 5-0 wins, this was also Napoli’s first Serie A victory of the season.

“I was not worried before and I don’t think we’ve resolved all our problems now. We are improving, but on Wednesday there’s another difficult game against Carpi. The side has grown tactically, athletically and in terms of confidence too.”

Napoli legend Maradona criticised Sarri to reporters last week, insisting the club would achieve nothing with him in charge.

“Maradona can think and say whatever he likes. He is and remains my idol,” replied Sarri.

Following these performances, Sarri was asked whether this Napoli could challenge for the Scudetto.

“I know in Naples that word gets bandied about easily, but it seems ridiculous to be saying that now…”
