Bologna President Joey Saputo confirms the club will ‘do everything to continue this journey’ with coach Thiago Motta after securing Champions League football.

The Rossoblu are currently on track for third place, as they are on level points with Juventus, although until the 84th minute they had been three points clear.

They were leading 3-0 this evening at the Stadio Dall’Ara with a Riccardo Calafiori brace and Santiago Castro header, but Federico Chiesa, Arkadiusz Milik and Kenan Yildiz scored three goals in eight minutes to snatch a 3-3 draw.

“It has been a wonderful season, but at the start of it we never expected to be in this position. It’s a pity we drew, as it would’ve been a marvellous way to end the campaign at the Dall’Ara,” Italian-Canadian patron Saputo told DAZN.

Saputo always had Bologna ambition

After the final whistle, there was a fireworks display all around the stadium while they played the full version of the Champions League theme tune, the crowd singing along.

“To be honest, I still can’t even think of us in the Champions League! We worked so hard, but getting here was the easy part, staying there will be more difficult. We have everything it takes to continue this journey together.

“I said when I came here that it was very important to bring Bologna back to the top, but I knew it would take time and the fans were always so supportive throughout.”

There is still so much uncertainty at Bologna, because coach Thiago Motta is only under contract until June 30 and is widely reported to be leaving them for Juventus this summer.

“We will do meet him this week and do everything to continue this journey,” concluded Saputo.
