Milan have communicated that today’s knee surgery performed on midfielder Riccardo Saponara was a success.

The 22-year-old sustained a sprain to the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee during Monday morning training, as well as a flap tear to the meniscus in the joint.

As confirmed in a club statement yesterday, the player was booked in for surgery this morning to undergo corrective surgery, which Milan have now updated on.

“Milan announce that this morning Riccardo Saponara has undergone arthroscopic surgery with a partial meniscectomy,” the Rossoneri’s release reads.

“The operation, carried out by professors Herbert Schonhuber and Roberto Pozzoni, was perfectly successful.”

No return date is set for Saponara, but he is expected to be out for a number of weeks.
