Riccardo Saponara says “this is my time” to shine on the big stage with Fiorentina after arriving from Empoli.
Saponara has joined Fiorentina on loan until the end of the season, at which the Viola have the option of making his stay permanent, and the attacking midfielder is keen to make it second time lucky at a “big team”, given his struggles at Milan earlier in his career.
“My second big team? My maturation convinced me that this is my time,” he said at his official unveiling on Monday.

“My experience at Milan was a formative one, but now I’m ready. In the past, some flirtations between [sporting director] Corvino and I never materialised, now I arrive with enthusiasm and desire because it didn’t take me long to say ‘yes’.
“I must also thank Empoli, [President] Corsi and the Coach who gave me my shot, plus director Corvino and Fiorentina for this opportunity. My dream? Playing for the national team.
“[Fiorentina] are still a great team and I want to take this second chance. The Coach who understood my potential the most was Sarri.
“Have I paid for my high valuation? It was high, but in a market situation, the negotiation game takes precedence.”
