“It was intuition more than anything,” Saponara explained to Sky after the match.
“I assumed they’d jump and had the idea of hitting a shot along the ground. I’ve seen that kind of free-kick many times, I tried it and it went well.
“These are three vitally important points against a team which is battling to stay up like we are. We could have done better with the chances created in the first half, it would be a shame not to have taken anything from such a performance.”
After a series of good perforamnces, is Saponara considering a future with one of Serie A’s leading lights?
“Yes, but I think that all comes from working every day, and making myself available to my teammates.”
