Santos President Andres Rueda confirms they are in talks with Juventus for Kaio Jorge, but ‘have not yet decided whether to sell now or if he’ll leave in January’ when his contract expires.

The attempt to argue his contract in fact ran to December 2023 rather than 2021 seems to have failed already, so the Brazilian club is essentially stuck.

Kaio Jorge has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Juve from January 1, 2022, so the only options for Santos are to sell now for a minimal fee or let him leave as a free agent.

“We are negotiating with Juventus for Kaio Jorge, but have not yet decided whether to sell now or if he’ll leave in January after his contract expires,” Santos President Rueda told Estadio97.

“It’s not true that this is a bad sale, because we didn’t want to sell Kaio, but find ourselves forced to because of his contract.”

According to UOL Esporte in Brazil, Santos are very close to an agreement worth €3m to sell the 19-year-old striker to Juventus.

Milan had agreed personal terms, but not signed him to a contract, while Benfica had worked out a transfer fee with Santos, but not the player.
