"I thank the fans with all my heart. They've made me feel certain emotions that I had never experienced before.

"To wear the shirt, during the good and bad times, was an honour. I thank the supporters who had the patience to wait for the real me, who unfortunately only arrived over the last season.

"I'm really sad to be leaving. I've spent five fantastic years here. Unfortunately these things happen in our line of work, but I'll certainly return to Florence for my holidays."

The Argentine has been linked with a variety of sides, but the 29-year-old could end up at Serie A surprise package Napoli.

The Azzurri are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, a campaign which will see them take part in the Champions League.
