Sassuolo forward Nicola Sansone sees his debut Italy call as “a starting point” for his international career.

The 23-year-old received his first call-up for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia and friendly with Portugal, having impressed in the informal training camp.

“This call-up does not represent a consecration for me, but a starting point,” he told reporters.

The 23-year-old received his first call-up for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia and friendly with Portugal, having impressed in the informal training camp.

“This call-up does not represent a consecration for me, but a starting point,” he told reporters.

“I hope to continue doing this well. I am enjoying this experience to the full. Evidently the training camp went well. It was a great sensation to be inside the Nazionale group.”

Sansone was born in Germany and grew up in the Bayern Munich youth academy, but both his parents are Italian.

He shot to fame in Serie A at Sassuolo with Simone Zaza and Italy Under-21 international Domenico Berardi.

Asked if he would remain there or go elsewhere in future, Sansone refused to answer any questions on the transfer market.
