The tactician had an agreement for several weeks, but had to wait until now to extricate himself from the contract with Palermo.

“I am very happy to be here. It took a while, but we got there eventually,” he said at the start of his Press conference.

“The President thanks me for choosing Chievo, but I can assure everyone it was a mutual admiration that brought us together.

“I believe that I’ve arrived at a big club, albeit one with a small number of fans, that has proved organisation is its strength. The objective is certainly safety and I don’t want to talk about anything beyond that right now, because words mean little.”

Sannino had an unusual season, as he went from Siena to Palermo last summer and was fired after three Serie A games. He was recalled in March, but could not prevent their relegation.

“I am starting a new adventure and am really hungry. I don’t like staying at home even for a vacation, so I am ready to get going,” continued the 56-year-old. “Chievo are like a family who came up from a small neighbourhood of Verona. I think the heart and passion is crucial.

“I would like to be remembered as a Coach who brought hard work and also entertaining football. I am the same man as when I was a player – dressed a little better, but still the same.”

Sannino also confirmed Cyril Thereau and Sergio Pellissier will be present at pre-season training, while Chievo have officially signed midfielder Riccardo Improta from Genoa on loan with option to buy half his contract. He spent the last two seasons on loan at Virtus Lanciano and Juve Stabia.
