Sampdoria have reportedly tabled a €1m contract offer to convince former Inter defender Walter Samuel to sign.

The Blucerchiati were rumoured earlier this week to have entered into negotiations to pick up the free agent and confirmed news on the matter would be arriving ‘soon’.

However, initial talks have reportedly stalled due to a difference between the club and player’s desired contractual terms.

La Repubblica’s Genoa edition suggests that to unlock the situation, Samp have put forward an improved offer of €1m for next season, including bonuses, and that Samuel’s agent Abel Balbo is now studying the option.

Should the deal be accepted, it would represent only a €500,000 drop in salary from his time at Inter and place the 36-year-old defender at the top of Sampdoria’s wage bill.
