The search for a tactician to replace Frank de Boer seems to be over, as multiple sources today confirmed Pioli has been chosen.

He had been trailing Marcelino and Gianfranco Zola over the last couple of days, but it’s reported the influence of Suning Group consultant Kia Joorabchian – who sided with directors Piero Ausilio and Giovanni Gardini over the need for an Italian Coach – proved decisive.

Inter released a statement today announcing the new boss would be appointed within 48 hours.

Sky Sport Italia note this is to give Pioli time to terminate his contract with Lazio by mutual consent, which shouldn’t be an issue as he was fired in April.

It is also reported that Pioli will have an ex-Inter hero in his staff, as Walter ‘The Wall’ Samuel will come in to work at his old club.

The 38-year-old Argentine was part of Jose Mourinho’s Treble-winning side and spent nine years at San Siro.

The former defender retired in July after a spell at FC Basel.
