Former Inter defender Walter Samuel, who collaborated with Stefano Pioli, has been named the assistant Coach of Swiss club Lugano.

Samuel returned to Inter last November as one of Pioli’s assistants, after nine, trophy-filled years with the Nerazzurri as a player.

However, the Argentine vacated his role in May following Pioli’s dismissal and will continue his coaching career in Switzerland, as No 2 to new Lugano boss Pierluigi Tami.

However, the Argentine vacated his role in May following Pioli’s dismissal and will continue his coaching career in Switzerland, as No 2 to new Lugano boss Pierluigi Tami.

“He’s very motivated, he’s the same as when he was a player,” the Coach said of his new recruit.

“He’s already won the Treble, so he can teach us how to do it…”

Samuel spent the final two years of his playing career with Lugano’s League rivals, Basel.
