Walter Samuel says he leaves Inter happy, having helped to secure Europa League football, whilst he reflects on plans for the future.

The centre-back is one of Inter’s Argentine contingent leaving the club this summer after years of service and believes the timing is right.

“Not sad, but there’s a lot of emotion,” commented Samuel this week to La Repubblica.

“Prior to Inter-Lazio I felt it. A period of my life has closed. For months I was saying to my teammates and the Coach that I wanted to leave Inter in Europe and I can leave happy.

“It is also right that the new President brings in new ideas, management and players – it is good.”

Despite being 36, Samuel feels he still has one more year left in him.

“I would like to play for another year, whilst not in Italy, because I feel good.

“Then, I will see if I can become a Coach, starting with the kids. My preferred formation is the 4-2-3-1, with wingers and a fast game.

“I hate to concede goals, but I always like to see them scored, by my team, though.

“I’ve always hated to concede a goal, even in training. I have never gotten used to the idea, I cannot. I hate to see it when the ball enters my net.

“What I learned Carlos Bianchi taught me that, he was my first maestro. Then Marcelo Bielsa, who coached us on defensive movements like no-one else.”
