The Argentine’s deal was set to expire at the end of this month, but he’s now put pen to paper on a new agreement until 2014.

“I'm very happy to have renewed my contract for another year,” the centre-back told the club’s official website.

“Along with my teammates, I hope I can give Inter a positive year and repay the club for the faith they've show since they still believe in me.”

The South American endured an injury-hit campaign at the Meazza in 2012-13, seeing as he appeared in just 22 games. He scored one goal in the process.

Samuel, formerly of Roma, was signed in 2005 for €16m from Real Madrid.
