Sampdoria released a statement confirming the process of finding a new buyer for the club is entering the key stages, with a shareholder’s meeting called for December 14.

The Blucerchiati have been in limbo for the best part of a year, since previous President Massimo Ferrero spent time in prison for fraudulent bankruptcy.

Current President Marco Lanna is trying to keep them afloat until new owners are found and with finances incredibly tight, confessed they were not in a position to buy a single new player in the January transfer window.

This afternoon, Sampdoria released a statement confirming that the Board of Directors met with Lazard bank today in Milan to evaluate the negotiations in progress, but that any and all details are locked down by non-disclosure agreements.

A meeting of the shareholders has been called for December 14.

Sampdoria are one of Serie A’s youngest clubs, born in 1946, but won the Scudetto in 1991, four editions of the Coppa Italia, one Italian Supercup and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1990.
