According to Ansa, Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has been arrested for alleged financial crimes that don’t involve the club.

Ferrero was taken to prison this morning, while five other people have been placed under house arrest.

The Guardia di Finanza arrested Ferrero for alleged corporate crimes and bankruptcy in an investigation carried out by the Paola Public Prosecutor in the region of Calabria.

Ferrero boguth Sampdoria in June 2014 from the Garrone family.

He released an interview with La Repubblica newspaper two days ago, saying that he was ‘tired’ and was looking for investors who could buy the club.

“After eight years of sacrifice, passion, hard work, but also personal attacks and accusations, I start being tired,” he said.

“I will continue to do my best for Sampdoria, but if there are buyers willing to acquire the club, please introduce them to me, I am ready to listen to them, provided they give the right value to the club.”

  1. Tired?? I went to the marassi for our game earlier in the season. The state of the stadium is a disgrace. The toilets look like they’ve not been cared for / renovated in 30 years. He and Preziosi have dragged those two wonderful clubs into the gutter.

On the subject of ‘financial crimes’….a premier league chairman would be arrested on a weekly basis if financial crime and corruption was actually punished.

  2. @Rosario. Isn’t the stadium owned by the municipality? Aren’t they the ones to maintain/make improvements? Isn’t Napoli having the same issues with the San Paolo? You may not be wrong about the owners, but let’s be clear about the stadium situation in Italy.

  3. @ Vero – would it not be the same as leasing any premises or building for commercial purpose? As in, If I rent a lease space for a restaurant, I can fix the toilet for my guests as opposed to leaving in a derelict condition. You lease as is in most cases.

  4. @VeroRossonero.

We aren’t talking about major work. Even a lick of paint, putting in new toilets, doors etc…easily done and doesn’t require much red tape. When I went to the game, I actually shared the photos with this website, but they didn’t share it. It wasn’t even fit for rabid dogs. So when you see the state both teams, it is no surprise.

  5. The situation at the Bentegodi is about the same. Frankly almost all venues in Italy have become a pressing issue. On the one hand, Serie A is barely surviving and the money and financial power of yesterday are both gone, so things might change slowly, if at all. On the other, derelict venues in 7 or 8 serie A cities (the Olympic rings, the massive unadorned concrete cathedrals, the hit and miss lawns in some stadiums, the sometimes pitiful TV production values … in Venice Dazn uses primarily just ONE Tv camera) are never going to help the emergency and bring global fans back to serie A.
