The lawyer for Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero reveals the patron was arrested ‘while he was negotiating’ for Red Star Belgrade coach Dejan Stankovic.

It has been a chaotic few days for the Blucerchiati, who seemed all set to sack coach Roberto D’Aversa and poach Stankovic from his current club in Serbia.

Yesterday the news emerged that Ferrero had been arrested for fraudulent bankruptcy regarding some of his other businesses not related to Sampdoria.

As a response, he resigned as President of the club and is ready to sell to a group run by Gianluca Vialli.

“Ferrero is currently in prison in Milan and I heard he is not in good physical condition, despite which he was still placed behind bars,” lawyer Giuseppino Tenga told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“He has high blood pressure and nosebleeds. He doesn’t even have a change of clothes with him at the moment, so hopefully they’ll at least allow those to be delivered to him.

“The arrest is due to Ferrero’s private business activities, including a cinema, in 2003, with the bankruptcy in 2017.

“Sampdoria have nothing to do with this, but evidently Ferrero is irritating to someone. I know he was negotiating with Stankovic to make him the new coach of Sampdoria, which is why at the moment of his arrest he was in Milan.”

Even before the arrest, Crvena Zvezda had no intention of releasing Stankovic from his contract early, so D’Aversa for the moment remains on the Blucerchiati bench.

It is a big week for Samp, who face arch-rivals Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna this weekend.
