Sampdoria President Marco Lanna blames VAR and referee after a 1-0 loss against Empoli: ‘The lads are furious and tired.’

The Blucerchiati thought they had scored a late equaliser through Omar Colley, but the referee disallowed his goal after a VAR check (click here for the description of the incident).

“I want to congratulate the lads because they played a great game. It’s another debatable decision against us,” Lanna told DAZN.

“We’ve always remained quiet, but now we are tired and angry because the lads are putting in outstanding commitment and doing a great job. Seeing everything wasted by a debatable decision hurts.”

Dejan Stankovic didn’t show up for his post-match interviews.

“We play for our life in every game,” continued Lanna. “We managed to score the equaliser, and the lads were furious [in the tunnel]. They are convinced they can earn survival, but it becomes difficult if the referee makes decisions against us. The team has shown that we are alive, but coming back home with zero points is disappointing.”
