Former Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has been released on house arrest for the Christmas holidays after 17 days in prison for financial fraud.

The patron was taken into custody on December 6, accused of fraudulent bankruptcy and other financial mismanagement charges.

He has since resigned as President of the club, while new buyers are sought.

According to the latest reports, the appeal to be allowed out on bail for house arrest during the Christmas holidays was accepted, largely because Ferrero is 70 years old.

He was released from the San Vittore prison in Milan and will return to his house in Rome.

Ferrero has been accused of fraudulent bankruptcy regarding four different companies and was placed in custody because the authorities were concerned he could tamper with the evidence.

Meanwhile, a Board of Directors meeting has been called for tomorrow, as the search for a new President and possibly a new club owner also continues.
